Background

During competitor research for the company’s flagship product (a video translation management system), it reveals a trend in AI video translation tools. However, most of these tools target content creators and businesses, often requiring manual adjustments or additional files in the process. Additionally, many competitors operate on a subscription model, which does not cater to regular consumers whose usage may be infrequent and whose volume tends to be low.

VideoDub AI was launched as an MVP that can instantly translate and dub videos in users’ preferred languages, supporting 65+ languages. The key is ensuring that users only need to upload the video they wish to translate; the translated and dubbed video is just a few clicks away.

The purpose of the MVP is to test the assumption that fully automated video translation can effectively serve customers who want to consume video content in their preferred language, thereby removing language barriers with ease. This capability can potentially open up a world of video content for consumers, allowing them to access media from around the world.

Overview

VideoDub was launched using a combination of the company’s existing technology and integrations with new AI technologies that are currently popular in the market.

Timeline: 3 months*

*Note: A simpler prototype and landing page were developed and tested in the preceding months.

Assumptions

  1. My customers need to quickly translate a video to understand its content.
  2. My customers do not have a background in video processing and prefer a translation tool that is not technical.
  3. Speed, accuracy, and cost are important factors for our customers.
  4. Customers are likely to be unwilling to pay for the service.
  5. No satisfactory substitutes are currently available on the market (there is no true fully automated video dubbing tool that is free of charge).

Validation Metrics

  1. Number of people who sign up after the online marketing launch.
  2. Percentage of users who utilize the service at least once after signing up.
  3. Percentage of returning users.
  4. Number of times a user utilizes the service.
